The World Cup Winter Break comes in full swing as the Spanish LA Liga goes into break after 14 Matchdays with FC Barcelona currently leading the stands with 2 points.
The Top 5 guaranteed European spots in the Spanish LA Liga are occupied by FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Athletic Club Bilbao and Atletico Madrid. FC Barcelona have maintained their sublime form as they have all season with the team losing just one match and having one draw whilst winning all other 12 matches with the El Clasico loss to Real Madrid the only dent on their fine start. Real Madrid are just two points of FC Barcelona with the defending champions shaking off a draw to Osasuna and a loss to Rayo Vallecano with a win aganist Cadiz to ensure they keep tabs on Barcelona. Real Sociedad and Athletic Club Bilbao complete the Top Four stands as Diego Simeone and his Atletico Madrid team further stuttering this season with the team only winning once in their last 5 games to further pile pressure on the manager after their disappointing UCL exit that didn’t even see them get a Europa League ticket in an utterly disappointing fashion.
The next 5 spots are currently occupied by Real Betis (who are on level on same points with Athletic Club Bilbao and Atletico Madrid) all on 24 points and would be keen to keep up the momentum for a Top Four Finish. Osasuna are surprisingly the revelation of the season with the team currently occupying the 6th position with the team just 1 point adrift of the Top Four standing. Rayo Vallecano, Villarreal and Valencia make the 8th – 10th positions with Rayo Vallecano unbeaten in their last 5 games after gaining 11 points including a 3-2 win over Real Madrid with Villarreal and Valencia still trying to maintain a good and stable form that has eluded them all this season.
RCD Mallorca currently occupy the 11th position as they look to keep their stand on the League standing with the aim of surviving the 2022/2023 LA Liga season. Real Valladolid and Girona are the two most in form team of the lot with 9 points and 8 points respectively in thier helm as they look to maintain their League status. UD Almeria and Getafe are looking put more touching distance between themselves and the relegation zone as they would look to do better than their current 16 and 14 point haul in the League.
RCD Espanyol, Celta Vigo and Sevilla are amongst the under performers this season with their path thus far with Sevilla the biggest name on the list as they currently occupy the 18th position with a major relegation battle on their cards when they resume the League proceedings after the World Cup. Cadiz CF and Elche CF are last two teams on the table who know they have to get their season back on track and for Elche, they still chase their first ever win of the season.
The League resumes December after the World Cup with the stakes poised to be even higher as LA Liga embarks on her 92nd season.
