With the World Cup looming in just a few days, the German Bundesliga table has taken a new look with Bayern Munich back on top the standings as they look to make it their 12th Bundesliga crown in a row.
Bayern Munich are back to the Top of the German Bundesliga table after a shaky few weeks that saw them drop down the table, they head into the Winter Break 4 points clear of 2nd placed SC Freiburg who themselves have maintained their sublime form thus far with the team currently having 30 points and losing just 1 of their last 5 games. RB Leipzig are easily one of the most in form teams in the World right now winning over 10 games on the stretch in all competitions and have been rewarded with a 3rd place standing on the table and just 6 points behind the current table toppers while Eintracht Frankfurt also would look to maintain their form that has seen them back into the Top Four although they share the same points with former League leader Union Berlin (27 points).
Borussia Dortmund’s last two back to back League losses have had an adverse effect on the team who have plunged downwards from the 2nd position to 6th position as they find themselves 2 points adrift the UCL spots in what has been a turbulent time for the team. Next to Borussia Dortmund are VFL Wolfsburg who have been in impeccable form in the last few weeks with the team on a four game winning streak and in good contention for an European berth that has eluded them since the 2018/2019 season where they finished 6th. Borussia Mochengladbach and SV Werder Bremen are the two teams that make up the 8th and 9th positions with both teams boasting of two wins in their last 5 games, a run that needs to be improved if either of them have plans to return to European football.
Mainz 05 and TSG Hoffenheim are the current placed 10th and 11th teams on the log with both teams being far from their usual best in recent times. Mainz has gained just 4 points out of a possible 15 and Hoffenheim has taken up a solitary draw in their last 5 games as they see edge even nearer to the relegation zone. Xabi Alonso seem to have turned the fortunes of the boys who play their home games at the ‘Bay Arena’ as for the first time this season, they have managed 3 wins in a row and would be happy for an impressive 10 point haul out of a possible 15 as they head into the break. FC Koln and FC Augsburg would be searching and digging deep for a turnaround of fortunes as they both have managed 1 point and 2 points respectively out of a possible 15, a run that seems them just 3 and 2 points of the relegation zone respectively.
The last four teams on the standings are Hertha Berlin BSC – who have managed 2 wins in their last 5 games and that pushed them out of the relegation zone they had occupied for a while, VFB Stuttgart – who are still struggling to find any kind of consistent form this season with just 3 wins all season (2 in their last 5 games), VFL Bochum – who have successfully seemed to be settling down in the league and have gathered up 3 wins in their last 5 games as they look to keep up fighting and would hope for more results like that to go their way, Schalke 04 – despite having a solid start have seen themselves firmly rooted to the foot of the table and would have to do better than their current form if they plan on remaining in the Top Tier of German football next season.
The Bundesliga resumes officially on the 20th of January where hostilities are bound to resume for the top guns.
