The EPL season kicks off in full gear this weekend as the stakes even get higher for all teams involved. The Queen’s passing slowed the progress of game time and with some games postponed from Matchday 7, it promises to be a hectic month for teams with games likely to be played once in every 3 days as October promises more football frenzy.
¶ ARSENAL VS TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
Arguably the most exciting match of Matchday 8 would be the curtain raiser as the North London Derby gets under way with the rivalry of ‘The Gunners’ and ‘The Lilywhites’ being renacted in this mouthwatering clash. Both teams have been on impressive form with Arsenal currently leading the EPL table with a 1 point advantage over 3rd placed Tottenham Hotspur. It promises to be an exciting all round with lots of goals probably on display in this encounter.
PREDICTION – ARSENAL 2 v 2 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
¶ AFC BOURNEMOUTH VS BRENTFORD
It promises to be an interesting match at the ‘Vitality Stadium’ when these two meet on Saturday afternoon. High scoring Brentford have only managed to win 1 game of their last 5 EPL matches and would seek to get a result against Bournemouth who surprisingly haven’t lost a match since the sacking of Scott Parker after Matchday four’s 9-0 loss to Liverpool. They recently battled from 2 goals down to beat Nottingham Forest and put in a beautiful performance in the 1-1 draw to Newcastle United. Both teams have look most likely to fight till the end of the whistle and goals could come in very handy in this match.
PREDICTION – BOURNEMOUTH 1 v 2 BRENTFORD
¶ LIVERPOOL VS BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION
Liverpool’s quest to revive their season continues when they face a very impressive Brighton And Hove Albion team who would be without their former head coach who moved to Chelsea FC. They would also be keen not to let the exploits of last season repeat itself where they led 2-0 at a point before eventually finishing the game at 2-2 in Anfield. Brighton and Hove Albion have all to play for this weekend as they try to continue their impressive run this season but know that a trip to Anfield would be very difficult for them.
PREDICTION – LIVERPOOL 3 v 1 BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION
¶ CRYSTAL PALACE VS CHELSEA
Selhurst Park would witness the clash of these two London giants who have had a slow start to the season and would be hoping to use this particular fixture as a stepping stone to improving their season. Chelsea had the better of this encounter last season beating Crystal Palace 4-0 on aggregate over two legs and would be hoping they can make it the 11th consecutive victory over Crystal Palace in all competitions.
PREDICTION – CRYSTAL PALACE 0 v 3 CHELSEA
¶ FULHAM VS NEWCASTLE UNITED
With 3 wins in their last 5 games and a current 6th placed position on the EPL table, The newly promoted ‘Cottagers’ have taken the EPL by storm. They play a Newcastle United side that they haven’t beaten since 2017 in the Championship and would seek to continue their impressive form in this home tie. Since Matchday one’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United have failed to pick up three points and have lost just one game (2-1 v Liverpool) this season with 5 draws already making them the team with the most draws in the League, they really are need of points and would attempt to get all three here in this tie.
PREDICTION – FULHAM 2 v 2 NEWCASTLE UNITED
¶ SOUTHAMPTON VS EVERTON
Two teams who are in dire need of a win to turn around their poor start to the season square off in this heated encounter. Last season saw both teams pick up home victories and this encounter could just be about the settlement of the bragging rights between both teams. Everton are unbeaten in 5 games in the EPL with 4 draws and 1 win while Southampton have won 2 and lost 3 of their last 5 games in the League. Frank Lampard and his Everton side have to dig deep if they want to pull off any surprises in this match with Frank knowing his opponent – Ralph Hasenhuttl could have some tricks up his sleeves.
PREDICTION – SOUTHAMPTON 1 v 1 EVERTON
¶ WEST HAM UNITED VS WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS
In what has been a tough start to the season for both teams who currently occupy League positions they won’t be so proud about as the 17th and 18th placed team brings events to a wrap on Saturday. Last season saw both teams win their home games by the same scoreline of 1-0 and the home factor may just be the game factor for David Moyes and his ‘Hammers’ team who are in desperate need of points. Wolverhampton Wanderers have been unlucky for most part of the seasons and know West Ham aren’t all that strong thus far and would fancy their chances here of getting a point.
¶ MANCHESTER CITY VS MANCHESTER UNITED
The ‘Battle of Manchester’ takes place on Sunday with both Manchester clubs coming into this match on a good run of form. Manchester United lost both legs to Manchester City in the 2021/2022 season and would hope that it doesn’t repeat itself while they keep trying to climb up the table. Manchester City would be with their Talisman Erling Haaland who they hope would be the difference for them as the striker has settled very at England. We expect a flurry of goals but ultimately Manchester City should carry the day.
PREDICTION – MANCHESTER CITY 3 v 1 MANCHESTER UNITED
¶ LEEDS UNITED VS ASTON VILLA
Leeds United resume League activities with a visit from Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa to ‘Elland Road’ in Sunday Afternoon’s EPL encounter. Aston Villa got the better of Leeds United last season with a 3-3 draw followed by a 3-0 win over Leeds United at this ground where Coutinho, Cash and Chambers were the goal scorers in that clash. Out for revenge, Leeds United would want to capitalise on the struggles of Aston Villa and land the killer blow that could resign them to their fifth defeat of the season.
PREDICTION – LEEDS UNITED 2 v 1 ASTON VILLA
¶ LEICESTER CITY VS NOTTINGHAM FOREST
Leicester City have started the 2022/2023 EPL season in a disastrous note with the team still the only team without a win in Division and have conceded the most goals so far over 7 games (22 goals), they currently are rooted to the last position on the table with the team picking up just 1 point from an available 21. Nottingham Forest are yet to integrate their new signings to the EPL as the team with the most summer purchases in the EPL has failed to live up to expectations even with the acquisition of high profile players. The King Power Stadium is where the curtains close for the Matchday 8 round of matches in the EPL with Brendan Rodgers poised to get his first win of the season over a Nottingham Forest side that are yet to settle in nicely.
PREDICTION – LEICESTER CITY 2 v 1 NOTTINGHAM FOREST
All is set for another grueling weekend for teams as they hope to gain the necessary points needed for their survival.
