Arsenal and Manchester City still lead the 2022/2023 EPL season standings after 8 matches, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion make up the top four currently. Match Day 9 promises to be interesting with the league table finally shaping up with the 2022 World Cup break looming and so far it is Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team that are bossing proceedings in the League.
- AFC BOURNEMOUTH vs LEICESTER CITY FC
The Vitality Stadium would be the venue for ‘The Cherries’ as they take on a Leicester City looking to make it back to back victories in the EPL after picking up their first win of the season with the 4-0 mauling of Nottingham Forest on match day eight. Bournemouth would be looking to make it a 5 match unbeaten stance in the EPL with the team gaining three draws and a win in their last 4 games. The pressure would be more on Brendan Rodgers and his boys as they aim to leave the relegation part of the table at which they find themselves rooted on the 19th place with the team hoping for a good run of form on their side.
PREDICTION – AFC BOURNEMOUTH 1 v 2 LEICESTER CITY
- CHELSEA FC vs WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS FC
Under fire manager Bruno Lage faces an uphill task as he seeks to guide his ‘Wolves’ team past their current 18th position with a tricky tie to in-form Chelsea at Stamford Bridge looming ahead for them. Graham Potter has guided Chelsea to back to back wins in all competitions with the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace and the 3-0 UCL win over AC Milan clear indications that ‘The Blues’ may have found their stride. Wolverhampton Wanderers are unbeaten in the last 4 games against Chelsea in the EPL and would hope that history is kind to them when they face Chelsea. Both teams would need a win to either send them into the Top Four or send them out of the relegation zone.
PREDICTION – CHELSEA FC 2 v 1 WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS FC
- MANCHESTER CITY FC vs SOUTHAMPTON FC
The Etihad Stadium would light up to the clash between ‘The Cityzens’ and ‘The Saints’ as Pep Guardiola would look to return to the top of the EPL table till Arsenal’s game on Sunday. Erling Haaland would once again be a force to reckon with as the Norwegian forward has scored 14 goals in all EPL games thus far. Southampton would be chasing their first win over Manchester City since December 2020, they find themselves just 1 point off the relegation zone and a win would surely put some distance between them and the dreaded drop.
PREDICTION – MANCHESTER CITY FC 4 v 1 SOUTHAMPTON FC
- NEWCASTLE UNITED FC vs BRENTFORD FC
Match day eight’s 4-1 win over Fulham at the ‘Craven Cottage’ saw Newcastle United’s run of 6 winless matches in the EPL come to a halt with Eddie Howe and his Toon Army moving up to 7th in the current standings. They host a Brentford side that has never beaten them in any league engagements either in the EFL Championship or the Top Flight division with 3 wins and 1 draw in their last 4 meetings. Brentford has endured just 1 loss in their last 5 meetings and could prove a huge test for Newcastle United as Thomas Frank and his ‘The Bees’ squad look to return to winning ways after a loss and a draw in their last 2 games in the EPL.
PREDICTION – NEWCASTLE UNITED 3 v 2 BRENTFORD
- BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION FC vs TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FC
Impressive Brighton and Hove Albion would once again battle a top side with a meeting at the Amex stadium on hand with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur team. The 3-3 draw with Liverpool ensured ‘The Seagulls’ remain in the Top Four part of the table with the team winning 4 of their 7 games played with a game in hand for them but would be wary of the threat Tottenham Hotspur poses with ‘The Lilywhites’ 3 points ahead of them in 3rd place on the standings. Last season saw both teams win away from home in both encounters and perhaps Tottenham Hotspur would hope for a repeat of that fortune when these two sides clash.
PREDICTION – BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION 1 v 2 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
- CRYSTAL PALACE FC vs LEEDS UNITED FC
Patrick Vieira would be looking to shake off their 2-1 home loss to Chelsea as they welcome Leeds United to Selhurst Park for this intriguing league encounter. Crystal Palace would be looking for their first win in 5 matches in this tie as they have endured 2 losses and settled for 2 draws in the League leaving them on same points with 18th placed Wolverhampton Wanderers with a win being needed if they want to get themselves out of the relegation spot. Contrary to expectations, Leeds United have done well thus far in the League with the team currently on the 12th position and picking up 9 points in the process. The last time Crystal Palace won in the League over Leeds United was November 2020 with Leeds United winning two of their last 3 meetings.
PREDICTION – CRYSTAL PALACE 1 v 1 LEEDS UNITED
- WEST HAM UNITED FC vs FULHAM FC
West Ham United returned to winning ways when they defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers on match day eight as that win elevated them to the 15th position with David Moyes trying to get his squad back to a amore familiar spot than they are on currently. Fulham lost 4-1 to Newcastle United to drop down to the 8th position as they travel to West Ham United for this clash where they are yet to get an EPL win over West Ham United with the 0-0 draw in 2021 the only point they have gained from the clash after previously losing all EPL clashes with ‘The Hammers’ in any EPL engagement.
PREDICTION – WEST HAM UNITED 2 v 1 FULHAM
- ARSENAL FC vs LIVERPOOL FC
In a match that always lived up to its expectations of suspense, thriller and of course goals is the match of the week clash between current table toppers Arsenal and a Liverpool side who have struggled for form this season with their 3-3 home draw with a manager less Brighton and Hove Albion side condemning them to a current 9th place berth on the EPL log. Arsenal’s last win over Liverpool in the league was back in July 2020 when they defeated Liverpool 2-1 at ‘The Emirates’ and would be seeking to try and feast on their opponents stuttering form with Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool team enduring a tough start to the League season that has seen the pick up 10 points out of a possible 21.
PREDICTION – ARSENAL 3 v 2 LIVERPOOL
EVERTON FC vs MANCHESTER UNITED FC
Manchester United would be looking to put behind the derby day defeat at the hands of their neighbours Manchester City in a 6-3 heavy defeat. They tune their attention to a meeting at the blue side of Merseyside where they face Everton in what could prove to be an heated encounter for Erik Ten Hag and his Manchester United squad. Frank Lampard and his side have had a good run of form, currently unbeaten in 6 matches in the EPL with their back to back wins over West Ham United and Southampton pushing them to the 11th position and just 2 points behind Manchester United as a win would surely take them within touching distance of the European spots.
PREDICTION – EVERTON 1 v MANCHESTER UNITED
- NOTTINGHAM FOREST FC vs ASTON VILLA FC
Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa meet for the first time since the 2018/2019 EFL Championship season that saw a 5-5 draw at the Villa Park that season. They meet in a clash that pits Nottingham Forest as the underdogs who are without a win in their last 6 matches whilst losing the last 5 matches in this period. Aston Villa would be looking to make it 4 matches unbeaten in the EPL as they travel to the ‘City Ground’ to face a depleted Nottingham Forest team as Steven Gerrard pushes to put himself clear of the relegation worries for now.
PREDICTION – NOTTINGHAM FOREST 1 v 3 ASTON VILLA
There’s all to play for all teams who would seek to keep their early season’s objectives alive as it still is a long season ahead.
