Yesterday, Spanish side Real Madrid, announced the signing of German international Antonio Rudiger after he completed his medicals.

Real Madrid signed Rudiger on a free transfer after the player’s contract was up at Chelsea.

Antonio Rudiger confirmed he would wear the Number 22 at Madrid. He said “I like number 2 but it’s Carvajal’s. But I didn’t think about it too much, I like number 22.”

Rüdiger on Barcelona’s interest “Barca were interested in me but I told my brother it’s Real Madrid or nothing.”

Rudiger on the UCL final : “When the Champions League final was played I already knew I was going to join Madrid and I was cheering for them. I loved that they won.”

Rüdiger on facing Barca at preseason “My debut in El Clasico? Even though it’s pre season, we want to win. I’m very excited.”

The German international was a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s Champions league winning side. He had 202 appearances for Chelsea scoring 12 times and providing 7 assists. He also won 5 trophies while with the London side. But the sanctions at Chelsea and other unforseen circumstances made Chelsea and Rudiger not reach an agreement for a new contract. At Madrid he would take home a significant wage around the figure of £7.7m and £8.5m. That equates to between £148,000 and £163,000 each week.
