It was a battle of the youngies, the new generation of women’s tennis players and 21 year old Iga Swaitek defeated Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-3 to pick up her second career grand slam title.
Swiatek who already was on a 34-match winning streak made it 35 after cruising past 18 year old American Coco Gauff to add a second French Open title to her cabinet after taking the 2020 French Open title after it was postponed due to COVID-19.
“I feel like two years ago I was pretty lucky that I could be there and basically I was living kind of in a bubble for two weeks,” said Swiatek.
“This time I felt the pressure. I felt baggage on my shoulders because I wasn’t an underdog anymore and I’m even more proud that I could do it and that I could make it for the second time.”
Swiatek becomes the only Polish player to win a Grand Slam title and becomes tied with Venus Williams for the longest win streak which Venus held since 2000.
