Nigeria To Face Sanctions From FIBA As Mali Replaces Nigeria In World Cup

The Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) have confirmed that Nigeria’s female basketball team of D’Tigress have been withdrawn from the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

The NBBF are having in-house rancor and the government, through the ministry of sports have chosen to shut down basketball activities in the country for two years, a decision which had been communicated to FIBA earlier from the president of the Nigeria Basketball Federation.

FIBA has invited the next ranked side, Mali to take Nigeria’s slot in Group B of the qualifying campaign for the 2022 World Cup whilst also stating that further sanctions might be imposed.

In a press release from FIBA, it stated “FIBA will announce whether there will be any other decisions related to the NBBF’s participation in other FIBA competitions and any potential disciplinary measures in due course.”
