MANCHESTER UNITED – A EUROPEAN SHADOW OF IT’S FORMER SELF

MANCHESTER UNITED – A familiar football figure and arguably one of the best English sides of all time with its rich history and overall title haul has proven enough to leave other clubs jealous of their trophy cabinet. The English side has a had a rough patch over the last few years and it’s become a question of what actually went wrong.

Founded in 1878, the biggest side in Manchester has come a long way in leaving it’s imprint across the footballing world and with fans stretching across the globe, The team remains the top revenue generating team in what has been a case of losses for many clubs since Covid-19 hit. 20 Premier League Titles, and 3 UCLs, 12 FA CUP, 5 League Cups are amongst thier total haul of 66 titles they have won in thier 144 year history.

Many coaches have been in and out of Manchester United but there is a manager whose name is known by all and regarded as one of the greatest of all time – SIR ALEX FEEGUSON

The gaffer is widely regarded as the most successful manager in Manchester history in a reign that lasted 26years and winning of 38 trophies (2 UCL, 5 FA CUP titles, 13 EPL titles amongst others) in what was a beautiful managerial career at Manchester United for the Scottish manager. Success in Europe and in England saw the team thrown into limelight with many notable names like David Beckham, Eric Cantona , Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Edwin Van der Sar etc creating one of the most formidable sides in English football history as they showed their dominance both in the England and in Europe, he retired since 2013 and its safe to say Manchester United have been a shadow of their former self

The team has taken a downward slope dive in form over the years with inconsistency and bad club management a major factor in United’s rapid decline. 3 titles since 2013 when Ferguson left plus being backed with a long history of high profile managers and player signings still hasn’t stopped the team of performing below par especially with bad decisions in the transfer market. Since Ferguson left, Manchester United has made a top four finish 5 times in the EPL and making the UCL SEMI finals 0 times and with end of the 2021/2022 season having hit its mark made it 6 years in a trophy laden era for the Red devil’s.

The Manchester United faithful have reinforced with a coaching talent from Ajax – Erik Ten Hag with the 52 year old’s exploits in Ajax signaling hope for the team and with the Summer still long, it remains to see what eye catching signings that could see Manchester United headed in the right path as they prepare for Europa league football next season.
