The EPL went off to a flying start last week as teams looked to get into shape in hopes of finishing strongly at the end of the season, we take a look into this weekend’s Top Six fixtures and give our predictions on who’s to stand tall and who may likely fall off the perch.

Opponents – Brentford FC

After a disappointing opening day league loss at home to Brighton And Hove Albion, Manchester United would be looking to make things right by getting all three points on saturday’s evening encounter with Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. Matchday 1 loss would surely not be the way new manager Erik Ten Hag hoped to start his career at Manchester United. Brentford had to come back from two goals down to get a point against Leicester City after a late equalizer from former Arsenal academy graduate Joshua Da Silva and they would hope to further build on that form and likely get a good result at home today.

Prediction: Brentford 0-2 Manchester United

Opponents – Tottenham Hotspur FC

Last Meeting – Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues have almost always had the best of Tottenham Hotspur since the German arrived at Stamford Bridge in early 2021 with four wins and one draw against Spurs in their last five meetings in all competitions and winning all four of the last four games. Chelsea will be looking to make it five of five as they welcome a rejuvenated Spurs team at the Bridge this weekend. With New signings Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella and Senegalese international Kalidou Koulibaly all impressing in ‘The Blues’ 1-0 win over Everton at the Godison Park last Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur on the other hand have been ruthless under new manager Antonio Conte winning 4-1 against Southampton last time out and scoring a total of 14 goals in their last five Premier League games. They come to Stamford Bridge with Antonio Conte looking to take all three points away at the Bridge on Sunday.

Prediction – Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Opponents – Leicester City

Last meeting – Arsenal 2-0 Leicester City

Arsenal started off the 2022/2023 Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win against former player and captain side Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace. Going into the lead in the 20th minute through Brazilian’s Gabriel Martinelli header and extended their lead in the 83rd minute courtesy Marc Guehi’s own goal after he was forced to head in a Bukayo Saka’s cross whilst under pressure. Crystal Palace dominated most of the game having over 50% of the possession throughout the 90 minutes but that was in vain as ‘The Gunners’ held out to a comprehensive win. Leicester City on the other hand had a disappointing start to the season after squandering their two goal lead against Brentford and ending the match in a 2-2 draw.

Prediction – Arsenal 2-1 Leicester City

Last Meeting – Manchester City 2-1 AFC Bournemouth

The Champions started the 2022 / 2023 season with an emphatic 2-0 against London side West Ham United in a match that demanded alot from the team but in the end their class showed as they ran off winners on the day. It’s been over two months since the dramatic 3-2 win over Aston Villa to be crowned Champions on the last day of the 2021/2022 season and ‘The Cityzens’ would hope to make it back to back EPL titles. Star man and new signing Erling Braut Haaland scored a brace on his Premier League debut. He (Haaland) would be looking to win the golden boot and will surely face competition from players like Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Darwin Nunez (Liverpool), Son Heung Min (Spurs), Harry Kane (Spurs), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United).

On paper you would expect Manchester City to get a comfortable win against opponent Bournemouth with the difference in both team’s quality quite clear. Since the last time this two sides met in 2019/2020 season, Bournemouth were relegated in the same PL season and since then Manchester City have been champions of England twice(2020/21, 2021/2022) and will be looking to make it three on the row equalling Manchester United record under Sir Alex Ferguson. Bournemouth made a surprising comeback to the Premier League by defeating Aston Villa two goals to nothing on the opening day and would strive to make an impact in this game.

Prediction – Manchester City 4-0 AFC Bournemouth

Opponents – Crystal Palace

Last Meetings – Liverpool 2-0 Crystal Palace

Last season’s runners up Liverpool started the season in a way their fans won’t be comfortable of playing out a 2-2 draw to new comers Fulham isn’t a way they would have liked to start the season and one can’t deny how good Fulham’s performance was. Fulham got into the lead through an header from Aleksandar Mitrovic, Liverpool equalized after a low cross from Mo Salah saw a beautiful flick from substitute Nunez beat the Fulham goalkeeper from close range. Aleksandar Mitrovic struck again from the spot after winning a penalty from a Virgil Van Dijk foul in the 18 yard box before Mohamed Salah came to the rescue after scoring an 80th minute equalizer to make it 2-2.

Crystal Palace had a disappointing start to the season after getting defeated at home by Arsenal on the opening night and will look on the positives after seeing their side dominate the match for long but lacked the killer instinct to finish off the game. Patrick Vieira’s boys will be looking to be a thorn in Liverpool’s flesh once these two sides face off on Monday.

With 5 wins of the last 5 against Palace, can Liverpool extend their winning streak against Palace?

Prediction – Liverpool 3-0 Crystal Palace

It’s a question of who wants it more than the other as the EPL enters her second Matchday and with the stakes looking to get higher after each Matchday, it remains to see who stands tall after proceedings.
